🔗 HL7 Integration

Connecting HealthCIP with lab analyzers, hospital systems, and medical devices.

What HL7 Is

HL7 is the international standard that lab analyzers, hospital systems, and medical devices use to hand clinical information to one another. When your analyzer speaks HL7, its results can arrive in HealthCIP by themselves, instead of someone reading them off a printout and typing them in.

HealthCIP sends and receives HL7 version 2.x messages, covering versions 2.1 through 2.6. If you are unsure what your equipment sends, ask your analyzer supplier or contact our support team.

What It Does For You

Lab results arrive on their own

When an analyzer finishes a test, it sends the result to HealthCIP. The patient is matched, the test is matched to the investigation the doctor ordered, and the report appears in the consultation — no re-typing.

If the patient or the test cannot be matched with confidence, the result is not guessed at. It waits in the HL7 Lab Queue for a lab technician to reconcile by hand.

Where results appear

StatusWhere to Find ItWho Can See It
Matched Doctor's Consultation → Lab Reports tab Doctor, Admin
Awaiting matching Lab → HL7 Lab Queue Lab Technician, Doctor, Admin

Once a queued result is matched to the right consultation, it appears immediately in the doctor's view.

Patient details stay in step

Where another system in your hospital is the source of truth for patient registration, it can send admission, registration, and update messages and HealthCIP will create or update the matching patient record.

Matching Lab Codes

Different analyzers call the same test different things. A code mapping tells HealthCIP what your equipment's code means, so results land against the right investigation.

To add one: Admin → HL7 Code Mappings → + Add Mapping

  1. Enter the code your analyzer sends (for example a LOINC code such as 718-7, or the analyzer's own code)
  2. Give it a description you will recognise
  3. Choose the investigation type in HealthCIP it should be filed under
  4. If the code only applies to one sending system, name that system — otherwise leave it as * for all sources
  5. Save. The mapping applies to the next result that arrives

Matching a result by hand

  1. Go to Lab → HL7 Lab Queue
  2. Find the waiting result and click Link
  3. Search for the patient by name or phone
  4. Select the patient, then the consultation the result belongs to
  5. Click Link Result — the report appears in the doctor's view

Messages HealthCIP Handles

These are the standard HL7 message types HealthCIP understands. The code in the first column is what your equipment or integration partner will ask about.
